Negroponte OUT But Not Really

U.S. Officials have confirmed to Off The Record that John Negroponte will in fact resign his position of Director of National Intelligence and take up the post of Deputy Secretary of State. Although not given specifics, it was hinted at that Negroponte is actually being ousted as DNI and "demoted" to Deputy Secretary of State (which, would make him Secretary of State Rice's number two man) because of "turf wars" within the Intel community as well as dissatisfaction among the rank and file Intel officers. Not date has been mentioned for Negroponte's quasi-departure, however sources tell Off The Record that his resignation is pretty imminent. There are, however, lingering questions over whether he will actually be confirmed by the Senate because of his involvement in Nicaragua and the death squad ordeals, so, he may really be OUT for good. More to come on this story as it comes in.
